Hey all..

So here are some notes on the progress of my rock climbling adventure..

Im really digging it.. big time. I think that the major reason that I am really liking it is that its not boring to me.. Sometimes when I was trying to get exercise I would always get bored with what I was doing. I would always think of it as work. Something that I had to do to get what I wanted.. and to make my body feel better... With rock climbing there is always something to do and always something to think about.. and I have the potential to go outside and take what I have learned outside..

So to answer your question Peter.. yeah.. Im going to be going outside.. and I can't really wait. even though as I have been typing this, thinking about the heights issue, my hands have started to sweat. So we will see...

Have a great day all..

Hey everyone..

Im back on the site also. Good to see you Ali..

Sorry I was gone for so long, but life has been happening. Everything is going great with me. There has been some changes that have made my life a little different.

Really the big one that has been taking up the most positive time in my life has been rock climbing... yes, rock climbing. I started to do it with the encouragement of my friend and really haven't looked back since I started.

Right now, I have just been learning everything that I can, and letting my body get used to all of the crazyness that has been going on around it. You really start to appreciate all of the new muscles in your body. You know, they were always there you just never knew that they were there..

I will be seeing you all very soon.. its good to be back..

love you all

Hi! I'm so glad to be back at Cumulus...

Sorry I've been away.  Phew, time flies with keeping up with the crazy economy, new opportunities, new ways to volunteer to help the Planet...life is full and good.

How is everyone out there?

I see concern on some folks' faces and understand those concerns.  My father was recently diagnosed with a disease that will be his demise (after a wonderful life of 86+ years), we have had financial challenges in our household with this "R" word, the discord amongst Americans toward Americans has taken an ugly, ugly turn...I understand the concerns.  I do know that if I try to shoulder the burden of things out of my control, I will allow myself to be mentally and spiritually crushed under the weight.  On the other hand, if I focus on what is right in front of me...right here and right now...I can take care of the manageable opportunities I've been given and leave yesterday and tomorrow's opportunities alone.  Even though I sometimes think I am Wonder Woman, I really am just a very lucky person who is getting a clue as to the secret of happiness.  The secret is to count my blessings for all I have, do the next right thing and be ready to reach my hand out to help someone if I get the chance.

See you here again soon...sending you all love,

Ali

My vegie life

Posted by pbn in Untagged

Coming up on one year of trying to live the vegie life.

Have you ever thought about going vegie? Well, I have ... and last year I finally decided to give it a try. Nothing too religious or all that strict about it, just tried to figure out something that might work for me. One day at a time, no pressure. That sort of thing.

So, I decided I would try not eating meat for a year and see if I could do it -- eggs, cheese would be okay -- but, in general, we would try to see what it would be like not to eat meat -- no beef, chicken, pork, fish or other meats. I decided not to over-think the details, which I tend to do with most things. Just do what comes easily, and see if I could stick with it for a year.

Well, on May 1st I will have lived the vegie life for a year, and this is my our story ....

one thing to do now...

call mom..call dad.. call your brothers, sisters and children ..friends and relatives and tell them what you have forgot to tell them in a while... "just checking in with you... it's been too long. I love you. Glad you're part of my life"... if nothing else, it will make you feel better and you'll change the world a little if only for a few moments...

Healthy (singing) Children?

Posted by Alison in Untagged

Alison

We remember the theme songs from The Flintstones, Sesame Street, etc, but can't remember our lessons from school...maybe if the lessons were put to music?  Here is a link to Songs that Teach Children About Their Bodies, Healthy Habits, Fitness and Illness...some of them are catchy tunes, too!  :-)

Red is to Vitality as Gray is to.....

Posted by Susan in Untagged

Susan

When we think of the color gray, what adjectives come to mind? Nondescript? Depressing? Resigned? Giving up? Lack of commitment to an actual color?

Conversely - Red suggests youth,  happiness, vitality.  No fear.

82 year old Mom traded in her old car for a new one. Old car - Gray, New car - Red.  "So what?" you may ask, rolling your eyes to heaven as if I'm making a big thing about nothing. Admittedly, I do usually make a big thing about nothing - but I simply can't overlook the change in my mother's attitude since the change in car, change in color. Not only has she ventured off familiar roads, she suddenly seems to be changing alot of things about her life. Energy seems to be infusing itself into her routine.
She's booked a trip to New York...and looking into a cruise. She's getting a body wave for her hair and investing in a good pair of driving gloves. (OK, I lied about that last part.) I don't think it's just the car. I think it's the color of the car. Mom is feeling like a bit of a rebel.

Miss Daisy is Still Driving.....

Posted by Susan in Untagged

Susan

Mom is buying a new car. Yes, the 1986 Honda is finally giving out on her - even though it has less than 70,000 miles on it and looks quite spiffy. But other than the financial implications of purchasing a new vehicle, I'm left to wonder if this is really a wise course of action. I haven't driven with her in two years - when we're together, I always do the driving. But I'm thinking I should get her behind the wheel and go for a spin. I don't think she's having problems, but I could be wrong. Some people drive fine at 82 - others...not so much. Her sight is good, her reactions are optimal (if her quick eradication of last week's palmetto bug is any indication) - so she's potentially fine behind the wheel. She will not go on the freeway or turnpike and she avoids unfamiliar roads. She enjoys U-turns and is hell bent on getting to the casino before noon and leaving before dark. A car equals freedom. I do not look forward to the day when I have to ask her to give up that freedom. And when I do, I'd better have a real good plan in place as to how she's going to get to the grocery store and the physician.
